Painted Hall Wedding Photography in Greenwich
The Painted Hall in the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich in London has to be one of the grandest wedding venues to photograph. It’s described as the finest dining hall in Europe, and was originally intended as an eating space for the naval veterans who lived at the Royal Hospital for Seamen. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren and Nicholas Hawksmoor, it’s decorations pay tribute to British maritime power. I was really looking forward to making some stunning Painted Hall wedding photography.
A Grand Wedding Venue
Colette and Stephen’s wedding began with preparations at a nearby hotel and a couple of swift halves at the Old Brewery for the groomsmen. The guests then gathered in the cavernous Painted Hall before Colette’s arrival. The vast scale of photographing in this huge space gives the images a unique feel due to the shallow depth of field and atmospheric lighting. Once the wedding ceremony was over, the drinks reception under the colonnades gave a great feel to the pictures. Back inside the Hall for the wedding Breakfast, the table top candle lamps gave a lovely warm feeling to the meal which concluded with some great speeches. The party continued in the basement with a live band and dancing till late. It’s an almost perfect location for documentary wedding photography.
