Natural Chainstore Wedding Photography
Being a London based wedding photographer, the chance to photograph at new and interesting venues is always around the corner. So I was delighted when Jess and Richard asked me to provide their Chainstore Wedding Photography. It’s an event space on Trinity Buoy Wharf in East London. It’s a really interesting place, containing London’s only Lighthouse. The Chainstore was originally built in 185. The former buoy manufacturing site is just across the River Thames from the O2 Arena. The open space and great views across the river promised to give me great material for some documentary photography. But before I could photograph there, I headed over to the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green for Jess’ preparations.
Town Hall Wedding Ceremony
After that, I caught up with my colleague Joan. She had been photographing the guys having a swift half at the pub opposite Stoke Newington Town Hall. It’s another fabulous London venue, oozing decadent 1930’s art-deco style! Following the ceremony, all the guests boarded a couple of double decker busses (green ones for a change!) and we made the journey over to Trinity Buoy Wharf for the reception and party.
And it didn’t disappoint as a venue with countless opportunities for great documentary photography. Though my style of photojournalism doesn’t rely heavily on the venue – it’s much more about the guests and the couple, the relationships and interactions. But having interesting surroundings and great light certainly helps inspire compositions. We used some of the bold colours form the nearby Container City during the portraits, before the meal started, leading into the First Dance and partying. Our coverage ended with Jess joining her husband on stage (where he and his band had been entertaining the guests since the First Dance) to belt out Amy Winehouse’s ‘Valerie’, much to the delight of everyone!
