“My first Valentines card. I was the only one in the class to get one from him. At least, I think it was him, everyones writing looked the same when we were ten. Anyway, I kept it. It’s in that basket along with the mix tape Anthony made me when we first got together. I remember wondering if I could ever marry someone who only wore checked shirts and sneezed twice when the sun came out. Still, anyone who starts a tape with Mark Knopfler’s Local Hero has to be worth getting to know better!
Oh, Eyore. You’ve always been there for me, even through that dreadful Summer job cleaning tents in France.
I can’t believe I kept that bottle of Malibu. That night after we’d finished ‘A’ levels…. Becky’s scar never really faded, and I know she still can’t stomach the smell of coconuts.
I’ll have to clear some of this out after we get back from honeymoon, now that Mum and Dad have got the house on the market. Downsizing to that nice little cottage in the Loire. I’m going to miss this place.
At least I’ve got the memories…”
* Apologies to Charlotte, who probably had none of these thoughts. Though she definitely wouldn’t have, if she’d been getting ready at the five star country hotel down the road.
